Removing protection you no longer need
PDF passwords are useful while you need them, then become friction once you don't. If you password-protected a contract for an initial round of review and now want to share it openly within your team, unlocking it removes the password prompt from every open. The result is a clean, standard PDF — the same content, no encryption layer.
You must have the password to unlock a PDF; this tool is not a cracker. We can't and won't recover lost passwords — that's a deliberate security boundary. If you've lost the password, you'd need to find the original unprotected source or recreate the document.
Once shipped, this tool will handle both open passwords (you can't view the PDF without it) and owner-restricted PDFs (you can view but can't print/copy without the permissions password). The unlock operation produces a clean copy; your protected original is untouched.
