When PNG beats JPG for PDF conversion
PNG is the right choice when you need pixel-perfect rendering or transparency. Designers importing PDF page content as layers in Photoshop or Figma want PNG, not JPG — JPG's lossy compression introduces artifacts that compound when the image is later edited, and JPG can't represent transparency at all.
For sharing, social media, and most web use, JPG is better — the file sizes are dramatically smaller, and the visual difference at standard DPI is imperceptible. Use PDF to JPG for those cases.
Be aware that even with a transparent background option, most PDFs are designed for white paper, not for transparent layers. Text on a transparent background can look odd when composited over a non-white background; you may need to flatten the PDF against the intended background color first.
